Melvin Durslag, veteran Los Angeles sports columnist, writes his first column today for the newspaper that he spent nearly 50 years competing against. Durslag, whose column will appear in The Times’ morning editions on Wednesdays and Saturdays and in The Times’ P.M. Final on Mondays, worked for the Hearst Corporation’s Examiner and, later, Herald Examiner since 1940, and wrote a sports column for Hearst papers in Los Angeles beginning in 1952.
