‘USA Today on TV’ Canceled: The low-rated “USA Today on TV” series, begun at a cost of $40 million as a video cousin of the USA Today newspaper, got the ax. Its final broadcast will be on Jan. 8. The show’s demise had been expected. The syndicated weekday series premiered in a blaze of publicity in September, 1988, on 156 stations. Then called “USA Today: The Television Show,” the series had four anchors, short stories, a fast pace and plenty of high-tech graphics. A new name, several format changes, three executive producers and 14 months later, the end was announced.
