Infant Left on Snowy Sidewalk Is Recovering

A baby boy found wrapped in a garbage bag on a snowy sidewalk began recovering from hypothermia Friday. The baby, estimated at 2 hours old, was dumped Thursday in a stack of garbage on a snowy curb outside an apartment building.

The newborn’s temperature dropped well below normal and did not register on a thermometer, a doctor said. A few more hours on the freezing sidewalk would have been fatal, he said.
