WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Wootton’s Free Throws Help UCLA Win, 73-70

Senior guard Michele Wootton made two free throws in the final seconds to clinch UCLA’s 73-70 victory over Eastern Illinois Friday night at Pauley Pavilion in the season opener for both teams.

The Panthers outscored the Bruins, 16-2, to pull to within 63-60. Then, after the teams exchanged baskets, Wooton secured the win with her free throws.

Center Molly Tideback led the Bruins with 23 points on 11-of-22 shooting. Reserve center Sheri Bouldin had 10 points and led both teams with 11 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Barb Perkes led the Panthers with 20 points.

CS Long Beach 94, Eastern Washington 61--Junior forward Lisa Reslock came off the bench to score 17 points and get 12 rebounds, both career highs, to lead the 49ers to a first-round victory in the Kansas State tournament at Manhattan, Kan.

The taller 49ers dominated the boards, outrebounding Eastern Washington, 69-39. Center Angelique Lee had 12.

Center Missy Chubb led Eastern Washington with 21 points.

The 49ers will play Maryland. The Lady Terps beat Kansas State in the other first-round game, 74-66.
