Money-Makers to Be Awarded: The newest gold-plated award in Hollywood will not be handed out to the best actor, best actress or best film of the year. It will be given to the movies that made the most money. Entertainment Data, Inc., which compiles statistics and box-office figures for the movie industry, will present the Gold Reel Award on Tuesday to motion pictures that grossed more than $100 million from Labor Day, 1988, through the following Labor Day. The Platinum Reel Award will go to the highest box-office grosser of them all, which Warner Bros.’ “Batman” has a sure lock on with more than $250 million.
