VanEmbricqs Paces UCLA Women, 68-57
Senior forward Sandra VanEmbricqs scored 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had four steals to lead the UCLA women’s basketball team to a 68-57 win over West Virginia Sunday at Pauley Pavilion.
The Bruins (2-0) ran off to an early 10-0 lead and increased the advantage to 16 points at halftime.
West Virginia (0-1) rallied in the second half, behind the 14-point scoring of sophomore center Tracy Slogik to cut its deficit to 61-57, before the Bruins scored the next eight points for the win.
Senior forward Michele Wootton led UCLA in scoring with 16 points.
