Millions Raised for Diabetes: About 50 top entertainers participated in a televised fund-raising benefit that raised more than $4.5 million for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International organizers said. Hosts for Sunday’s event were Gloria Loring, Hal Linden and Mary Tyler Moore, who also is the foundation’s international chairman. Participants included Ricardo Montalban, Oprah Winfrey, Frank Sinatra, Arsenio Hall, Dick Clark and Belinda Carlisle. The nonprofit organization, which supports diabetes research, raised $4,554,549 during its four-hour “Thanks for Giving” broadcast on the USA Network, according to a statement issued by the organization.
