P.M. BRIEFING : Coca-Cola Lights Up Moscow
In one more sign of changing times in the Soviet Union, officials of the Coca-Cola Co. today lighted the country’s first neon advertising billboard in Moscow’s Pushkin Square.
E. Neville Isdell, Coca-Cola senior vice president, turned a switch illuminating the red neon sign in a ceremony in the square.
The sign, which measures about 20 by 40 feet, features the world’s best-known trademark in a moving neon display, along with the current time and temperature. Each day, tens of thousands of people pass through Pushkin Square, one of Moscow’s busiest intersections.
Similar signs are located in New York City, London, Tokyo and Sydney, Australia.
