Giants ‘Intrigued’ by Parrish; Several Other Teams Interested
Angel catcher Lance Parrish, who was declared a free agent Wednesday, has become the object of several teams’ interest despite his stated preference for remaining with his current club.
Al Rosen, general manager of the Giants, told the Sacramento Bee that he is “intrigued” by Parrish and had spoken once to Tom Reich, Parrish’s agent. Without confirming his contact with Rosen, Reich said several clubs had contacted him about the 33-year-old catcher. However, Reich doesn’t expect Parrish’s situation to change soon.
“We haven’t had any substantive discussions with anyone else yet,” Reich said. “I thought we should talk to California first.”
Angel General Manager Mike Port declined to comment on any player other than Mark Langston Friday. “I’m not in a position to go beyond that,” he said.
