Mario Lemieux scored three goals at Quebec to tie a Pittsburgh club record and extend his points streak to 15 games as the Penguins beat the Nordiques, 7-4, Saturday night.

Lemieux’s third goal of the game and 316th of his career moved him into a tie for the Penguins’ all-time goals record with Jean Pronovost, who retired in 1978.

“Oh, yeah?” he responded when advised of the record. “I guess it’s just a question of time until I beat that record,” he laughed.

In 17 career games against the Nordiques, Lemieux has 22 goals and 18 assists.

It was the 23rd game in Lemieux’s career in which he has scored three or more goals. He has 11 goals and 22 assists during his 15-game points streak.

Lemieux scored twice in the first six minutes and then added his third goal four minutes into the third period, lifting a rebound over goaltender Ron Tugnutt.

Pittsburgh led, 4-0, at the end of the first period. Bob Errey, Rob Brown, Kevin Stevens and Mark Recchi also scored for the Penguins, who broke a three-game losing streak.

Quebec has lost five in a row.

Calgary 7, Toronto 4--Defenseman Al MacInnis extended his scoring streak to 10 games and stifled a Toronto comeback with a third-period goal as the Flames beat the Maple Leafs at Calgary.

A chorus of boos had filtered down from the sellout Olympic Saddledome crowd of 20,107 after the Leafs scored three goals in the final 3:06 of the second period to draw to 5-4. But MacInnis’ ninth goal, at 2:31 of the final period, and Jiri Hrdina’s seventh, at 3:24, sealed Calgary’s second straight victory.

Edmonton 6, Minnesota 1--Glenn Anderson scored three goals and had two assists as the Oilers beat the North Stars at Edmonton.

Anderson, who hadn’t scored a goal in 12 games, dominated the ice along with Mark Messier, who had three assists, and defenseman Kevin Lowe, who had a goal and an assist.

Edmonton’s Bill Ranford stopped 22 shots, 11 in the third period. He lost his bid for a shutout when Gaetan Duchesne flipped a shot over his glove at 8:13 of the final period.

Anderson’s three-goal performance gives him 20 in his career, tying him with Jari Kurri for second on the Oilers’ all-time list, behind Wayne Gretzky.

N.Y. Islanders 6, Winnipeg 3--Pat LaFontaine scored twice and Pat Flatley had four points as the Islanders beat the Jets at Winnipeg.

LaFontaine’s league-leading 20th and 21st goals helped the Islanders to their second straight win, only the second time this season the Islanders have won two in a row.

Flatley scored once and added three assists.

St. Louis 2, Boston 1--Paul MacLean and Brett Hull scored goals 13 seconds apart in the first period at Boston, which was good enough for the Blues to beat the Bruins.

It was only the second loss in 13 games for the Bruins and their first home defeat in the last eight contests.

Boston’s Cam Neely was shut out of the scoring column after he had scored at least one goal in each of the last eight games, one short of Phil Esposito’s team record of nine.

Washington 5, New Jersey 3--Mike Ridley broke a second-period tie with his fifth goal in eight games and later set up two third-period insurance goals as the Capitals beat the Devils at New Jersey.

Dino Ciccarelli scored two goals and had an assist as Washington won for the fourth time in five games.

Ridley, who has 11 points in his hot streak, broke a 2-2 tie by putting his own rebound past New Jersey goaltender Sean Burke at 9:16 of the second period. The goal came just 39 seconds after Reijo Ruotsalainen tied the game with his first goal as a Devil.

Hartford 4, Montreal 3--Bo-Mikael Andersson scored a short-handed goal on a breakaway early in the third period at Montreal to give the Whalers a victory over the Canadiens.

Andersson stole a cross pass at the blue line, charged in alone and beat goaltender Patrick Roy for his fifth goal of the season at 2:46 to break a 3-3 tie.

Ron Francis, Pat Verbeek and Todd Krygier also scored for Hartford, which ended a six-game losing streak at the Montreal Forum dating back to Feb. 13, 1988.
