US West, Hungary Sign Cellular Phone Deal: US West Inc. and the Hungarian government phone company signed an agreement to operate a cellular telephone system in Hungary, the first in Eastern Europe, the company said. Construction is expected to start in the second quarter of 1990, with initial service being offered in Budapest in the first quarter of 1991, US West and Magyar Posta announced. The first phase of the project will cost about $10 million. US West, which is based in Englewood, Colo., said the system eventually will provide mobile cellular communications throughout Hungary, which has a population of 10.6 million people. US West is one of the seven regional Bell phone companies.
