New MOCA Curator: Paul Schimmel, chief curator of the Newport Harbor Art Museum, has been appointed chief curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. He succeeds Mary Jane Jacob, who left MOCA in October to pursue independent curatorial projects. During his eight-year tenure at the Newport Harbor Art Museum, Schimmel organized a retrospective of Chris Burden’s work and several exhibitions of postwar American art. Schimmel, 35, will take over his new post full-time on April 16.
