A car ran a red light and struck another car at a Lancaster intersection Wednesday, killing a 3-year-old boy in the second car and causing minor injuries to the drivers, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The boy, Cody Bates of Lancaster, died of extensive head injuries at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center shortly after the 2:35 p.m. crash at 10th Street West and Avenue J-8, Deputy Cory Kennedy said. His mother, Belinda Bates, 27, and the driver of the first car, Linda Holcomb, 30, of Lancaster, were treated at the same hospital and released, he said.
Holcomb was not cited pending an investigation, police said.
