At the request of the jury in the Nancy Hoover Hunter trial, federal court personnel Wednesday read transcripts of the testimony that Hunter gave in October.

A court clerk and a court reporter played the roles of defense attorney Richard Mararo and Hunter for nearly two hours.

Hunter occasionally had to fight back tears when her testimony centered on her love affair with J. David (Jerry) Dominelli, the mastermind of J. David & Co.

The jury heard most of Hunter’s testimony from her first day on the witness stand. On Oct. 18, Hunter was questioned about how she met Dominelli at a La Jolla brokerage house, how they fell in love and how Dominelli promised to leave his wife and marry Hunter.

Earlier in the day, the jury sent a note into the courtroom of U. S. District Judge Earl B. Gilliam asking to have two days of Hunter’s testimony repeated. Hunter spent nine days on the stand. After several minutes of discussion among attorneys on both sides, Gilliam decided to use “disinterested parties” to read the transcripts.

The jury has been deliberating 197 charges against Hunter for 12 days. The former mayor of Del Mar is charged with playing an active role in J. David’s giant Ponzi scheme, which bilked $80 million from 1,200 investors.

The jury will continue to hear transcripts of Hunter’s testimony today.
