‘Education Summit’ Delayed Until January

An “education summit” to discuss funding for new schools in the fast-growing Santa Clarita Valley, originally scheduled for today, has been postponed until next month because of scheduling problems, Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich announced Thursday.

The meeting, prompted by classroom crowding in the area, was to bring together Santa Clarita Valley school superintendents, state legislators, building industry representatives and county authorities to discuss the problems faced by school districts trying to absorb growing enrollments in developing areas.

Antonovich asked officials to organize the meeting last month. Dawson Oppenheimer, a spokesman for Antonovich, said the meeting is rescheduled for Jan. 29.
