BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Edison Tips Marina for Win, 56-55

Brandon Jessie scored 13 points and Tom Tyler 12 to lead Edison High School to a 56-55 victory over Marina Saturday in the championship game of the Santa Maria basketball tournament at Alan Hancock College.
Edison (3-1) led by eight points with 1:30 left, but Marina pulled to within one and missed a last-second shot.
Jessie and Tyler were named to the all-tournament team for Edison. Brent Shelor and Travis Boyd were all-tournament selections for Marina (3-2).
In the Cerritos-Gahr tournament:
Woodbridge 70, Long Beach Wilson 63--Trailing 30-27 at halftime, Woodbridge (4-1) outscored Wilson, 21-12, in the third quarter en route to fifth place in the tournament. Forward Bryant McLemore led the way with 28 points, including going 10 for 10 from the free-throw line.
In nonleague play:
Newport Harbor 79, Villa Park 49--Eddie Martinez scored 19 points, Kevin Saks added 16 and Paig Parish had 13 points and seven assists for Newport Harbor (3-1).
Santa Ana Valley 49, Costa Mesa 47--Forward-center George Alvarado scored 32 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead Santa Ana Valley. The score was tied, 45-45, with about a minute left before Alvarado scored two consecutive baskets to secure the victory for Santa Ana Valley (1-3).
In the Laguna Beach tournament fifth-place game:
Fallbrook 61, Corona del Mar 55--In the fifth-place game, Corona del Mar led for the first three quarters, but needed a basket by Warren Johnson--his only points of the game--with six seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
