An out-of-print, paperback book about the history of this 213-year-old community is being revived in a glossy, hard-cover version.

The fund-raising project was planned and jointly financed by the city, the San Juan Capistrano Historical Society and the Chamber of Commerce.

The City Council has approved a $15,000 contribution for the printing of 2,000 copies.

The 144-page, $5 paperback will be republished as a glossy, 192-page book with 300 photographs. It will sell for about $30, with proceeds benefiting each of the groups funding the limited run proposed by Dunning Publishing Co., the plan said.
