Koch to Be Honored: Film maker Howard W. Koch has been selected to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, given since 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to people in the entertainment industry who are committed to helping others. Koch, 50, is campaign chairman of the Permanent Charities Committee of the Entertainment Industry, chairman of the Directors Guild’s Educational and Benevolent Foundation, and on the board of directors for public television station KCET. He is also active in the Save-a-Heart Foundation, the National Conference of Christians and Jews, and the Boy Scouts. The veteran producer and director’s roots in the academy run deep. He served on its Board of Directors for 16 years, two as president, produced the Oscar awards ceremony eight times and also directed two TV specials for the academy.

Film maker’s age--Producer-director Howard W.Koch, recipient of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is 73. An incorrect age was given in Tuesday’s Calendar. Koch is former campaign chairman of the Permanent Charities Committee of the Entertainment Industry and a former member of KCET-TV’s board of directors.
