ORANGE : Vote Expected on Development Plan

Share

The City Council will hold a public hearing tonight on a development proposal that is expected to increase the city’s population by one-third and its size by almost one-half.

The East Orange General Plan, which has been in the works for more than three years, calls for houses, businesses, recreational facilities and open space on 7,110 acres of hills east of Orange.

The Irvine Co. plans to build the project in four or five phases, with areas being annexed as they are completed.

The proposal has drawn criticism from Serrano Irrigation District officials, who claim the project’s effect on water quality in Irvine Lake (Santiago Reservoir) has not been adequately addressed.

The council is expected to vote on the plan after the public hearing, which begins at 7 p.m. in the council chambers.
