The St. Louis Blues today traded right wing Todd Ewen, one of the NHL’s most notorious fighters, to Montreal in exchange for the return of a draft pick previously dealt to the Canadiens in January for defenseman Mike Lalor.

In return for Ewen, who had 493 penalty minutes in 124 games, St. Louis will get its own third-round pick in the 1991 Entry Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Ewen had 10 goals and seven assists in 3 1/2 seasons with the Blues. The development of rookie Kelly Chase, 22, who Blues officials believe has better playing skills, made Ewen expendable.
