THE SIDELINES : Kingdom, Quirot Win Honors

MONTE CARLO, Monaco —
Hurdler Roger Kingdom of the United States and middle-distance runner Ana Quirot of Cuba were named the best track and field athletes of 1989 by the International Amateur Athletic Federation.
Kingdom set a world-record 12.92 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles at Zurich, Switzerland, Aug. 16, and Quirot had a 1:54.44 clocking in the women’s 800 meters at the World Cup in Barcelona, Spain, Sept. 9.
