Cable television magnate Ted Turner has signed a deal with producer Steven Spielberg for a series of original movies for Turner Network Television.

The six two-hour films, called “Showcase Theater,” will be produced by Spielberg’s production company, Amblin Entertainment, and the theater production company, Brandman Productions.

Spielberg, known for “The Color Purple,” “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” and “E.T. the Extra Terrestrial,” said in a statement a repertory company of actors would be formed for the films.
