Strikers’ View

In reference to “Drivers, Strikers Skirmish at Plant” (Dec. 5), I am writing to point out the underlying meaning of this particular strike in Anaheim: Owl Rock and Sand was recently purchased by Japan’s Mitsubishi Corp., and Operating Engineers Local No. 12 is merely the front line of a battle we will all soon be facing.

We are quickly becoming nothing more than labor chattel to concerns whose long-term strategy is definitely not to improve the quality of life for the working men and women of this country.

Ask the 150 people who went on strike, and they will tell you that they are not against participating in a world economy; they are against turning the United States into the international corporate community’s next source of cheap labor.
