Man Dies After Being Shot in Robbery Attempt

A Pomona man who was shot in the back of the head while trying to flee from a would-be robber died Tuesday night at Pomona Valley Community Hospital, police said.

Kevin Corona, 23, was in a telephone booth in the 500 block of Curran Place when a car pulled up about 9 p.m. Tuesday, police said. The driver approached him and, after a brief conversation, pulled out a handgun and demanded money, police said.

When Corona began to run, the driver fired several shots, one of which struck Corona in the back of the head, police said. Two men 15 and 24 years old who were driving a white, 1970s-model four-door car are being sought.
