Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

Do you get the feeling Milli Vanilli owns the No. 1 spot on the Billboard pop album chart? This dance-music duo bounces in and out of the Top 10 like it’s their own private turf. They’re back on top again with “Girl You Know It’s True.” “Blame It on Rain,” their former No. 1 pop single, is responsible for this latest surge. Whitesnake’s “Slip of the Tongue” is slipping. After racing up the chart to No. 10 in just four weeks this hard rock/metal album, which was considered a potential No. 1, dropped to No. 14. Quincy Jones’ “Back on the Block” barreled up to No. 27 in just three weeks.

* Christmas albums hardly ever make the Top 10, but New Kids on the Block, the phenomenally popular teen-singing group, made it--at No. 9--with their Yuletide collection, “Merry Merry Christmas.” So, with “Hangin’ Tough” (No. 6), the group has two albums in the pop Top 10 at the same time--an extraordinary feat.
