The ballot battle for a downtown ballpark to replace Candlestick Park may not be over, Mayor Art Agnos said in a published report today.

Agnos is vowing to resubmit his defeated proposal for a $115-million ballpark to city voters if state or local investigators find that a Sacramento sports promoter illegally channeled contributions to anti-ballpark forces.

“If, as I suspect, it’s determined . . . that outside influences--namely a Sacramento developer--funded a community-based campaign putting out disinformation, then I’ll put it back (on the ballot) because that’s foul play,” Agnos told the San Francisco Examiner.

Agnos has repeatedly said since an anti-ballpark mailing appeared the weekend before the Nov. 7 vote that he believed the effort was funded by Sacramento developer and sports entrepreneur Gregg Lukenbill. Lukenbill has denied the allegations.

Agnos says Lukenbill is trying to steer the Giants to Sacramento, where the developer and associates in the Sacramento Sports Assn. have unveiled plans for a multipurpose stadium.
