Who Will Attend?Hollywood insiders will be keeping a close watch on who attends this year’s American Cinematheque spring gala, as the event is being sponsored by Japanese corporation JVC, who is the biggest competitor of Sony Corp, which owns Columbia Pictures. At the gala, “The Moving Picture Ball,” to be held March 23 in the Century Plaza Hotel, Director Ron Howard (“Cocoon,” “Parenthood”) will receive the American Cinematheque Award as a top talent and contributor in film. The event is an annual sold-out gathering of Hollywood’s creative minds and power brokers. Organizers expect to raise $350,000 for the American Cinematheque, a nonprofit cultural organization chaired by director Sydney Pollack.
