Three More Airlines Cut Fares: American Airlines, Trans World Airlines and USAir said they would match Southwest’s fare cuts in competitive markets, a move that may herald a new price war among the top domestic carriers as they try to lure travelers in the sluggish winter months. Southwest Airlines, a Dallas-based carrier, said Tuesday that it was reducing many of its longer-distance fares nationwide and placing a ceiling of $99 one way on any 21-day advance-purchase fare for travel Monday through Thursday and on Saturday from Jan. 6 to March 15.
