It’s Really Un-Claire Where the Dodgers Plied Their Trades
The rap against Fred Claire has always been that he isn’t a baseball man. This is a man of statistics. And statistics tells us what a player has done in the past.
A real baseball man can look at a ballplayer and tell us what he will do in the future.
Claire must play it safe and trade for ballplayers who have, at some time, proved their major league ability. That is why the sharp general managers have picked the Dodgers clean, scampering away with talented youth like the Devereauxs, Brocks, Bells, etc.
Claire has made the Dodgers a dumping ground for players who are either moody, gimpy or over-the-hill.
