This has to be the most dismal season since the tube was invented. And this comes from someone who goes all the way back to the days of Dumont Broadcasting. Surely there is more to TV than shoot-outs, car chases and pimply faced pubescents. And surely there is sufficient source material available to break this moldy mold. I would like to direct those in search of suitable scripts to back issues of Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine as one source. The magazine contained a number of intriguing serial-type short stories, any of which would be an improvement over the present banalities. It should be noted that all of these were short on gratuitous violence and long on intelligent plotting. Present TV fare could stand a whole lot of both.
