Fonteyn, Kolpakova to Coach ABT: Veteran ballerinas Margot Fonteyn and Irina Kolpakova are scheduled to coach the dancers of American Ballet Theatre for several weeks during the company’s winter rehearsal. Fonteyn, prima ballerina of Britain’s Royal Ballet in the ‘50s and ‘60s, was renowned for a wide range of interpretations, such as Aurora in “The Sleeping Beauty” and Odette/Odile in “Swan Lake.” Fonteyn created the principal role in Sir Frederick Ashton’s “Birthday Offering,” which has just entered ABT’s repertory. Kolpakova was graduated from the Leningrad Kirov School in 1951. She received international acclaim for interpretations of numerous classical roles, most notably Aurora and Princess Florine in “The Sleeping Beauty” and the title role in “Raymonda.”
