Accountants in Arizona are pessimistic about the state’s economy although they do not feel that a recession is likely, according to a poll released today by the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Of the 600 CPAs who were polled, 66% said the state’s economy is bad, 29% said it is normal and only 5% said it is good. A year ago, 30% rated the economy as bad, 56% said it was normal and 14% rated it as good.

The 1989 survey also showed that 56% think there will be no change in the economy by the mid-1990s with 29% saying conditions will improve and 14% predicting a worsening state economy.
