TV RATINGS : Holiday ‘Cheers’ at NBC; No. 2 Finish for CBS

“Cheers” made its way to the No. 1 slot for front-running NBC last week, while CBS finished No. 2 for the second week in a row, according to figures released Wednesday by the A.C. Nielsen Co. It’s the second time this season “Cheers” has risen to the top, a position normally taken by ABC’s “Roseanne” and NBC’s “The Cosby Show.” In winning the week, NBC’s prime-time programs averaged an audience of 11.8 million households, compared to 10.8 million for CBS and 10.4 million for ABC. * “I Love Lucy Christmas,” a nostalgic episode of the classic CBS series that had not been shown in 33 years, was the week’s sixth-highest-rated program.
