Psychic Reading at Fund-Raiser for Library Wing

Share

An issue, brought to my attention with my recent Huntington Beach water bill, has caused me great consternation and concern. I refer to the library’s upcoming “Valentine Sunday Brunch” fund-raiser benefiting the planned new children’s wing.

While I support efforts to include the private sector in such municipal causes, this one included the occult! It offers those attending this $15-per-person lunch a psychic reading.

Does the city of Huntington Beach endorse this “Look Into the Future” that the library director’s office encourages? Is our library becoming an outreach of the New Age “occult church?” And, just whose beliefs and opinions influenced the theme of this seemingly innocent event?

There is no credible look into the future. Huntington Beach should not take part in the occult, sacrifice goats for rain or offer Holy Communion at council meetings! By mailing this invitation with the city’s water bills, the city endorsed mediums and spiritualism, both of which are religious beliefs.

“Psychic reading of your future,” at the very least, bears no relationship to facts, truth or anything even remotely connected with a sound education. At worst, it violates our constitutional separation of church and state and offends many Bible believers, who know the occult to be demonic.

The occult is not a parlor game. The supernatural is not something done for entertainment. Those who believe in its precepts and dogma adhere to it religiously.

Is this a totally unconscious action on the part of the library and our city leaders? Or, even worse, is it the new religious belief the city of Huntington Beach seemingly embraces?
