NEW CHARGES: Prosecutors are expected to announce Monday at Pasadena Superior Court whether they plan to refile charges of kidnaping and assault with a deadly weapon against Jeffrey Cox, 19, a former San Gabriel High School student accused of holding his classmates hostage with an assault rifle in 1988. A hung jury last month forced a mistrial.

“GET HIP”: Hollywood High School holds an assembly on Tuesday to kick-off a new education campaign on noise-induced hearing loss called HIP--Hearing Is Priceless. The event is meant to draw attention to a state law that took effect Jan. 1 that prohibits car stereos from being played at levels that can be heard at a distance of 50 feet or more.
