One person was killed and four others injured early Saturday morning when a Paramount man suspected of drunk driving ran a red light and rammed into another car, police said.

Joseph Carillo, 34, of Long Beach was killed in the 1:45 a.m. collision at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Imperial Highway, police said.

He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Joe Fragoso, 25, police said.

The driver, charged with a felony count of driving under the influence of alcohol, remained in critical condition Saturday night at UCI Medical Center in Orange with multiple fractures and head injuries, a nursing supervisor said.

A second passenger in the Fragoso car, Mario M. Garcia, 36, of Paramount was in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, police said.

The two people in the car that Fragoso hit--driver Marvin Olsen, 50, of Orange and passenger Sherry Herring, 33, of Anaheim--both suffered injuries and were in stable condition at La Habra Community Hospital, police said.

Sgt. Kevin Raisch of the La Habra Police Department said a preliminary investigation indicated that Fragoso ran a red light and hit Olsen’s car.

He may also have been speeding, Raisch said.
