Manson Lawyer’s Practice Taken Over by State Bar

The attorney who represented mass murderer Charles Manson had his law practice taken over Monday by the State Bar of California.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge John Zebrowski ordered that the legal practice of Irving A. Kanarek, 69, be assumed by the bar, which has the authority to take over the practices of attorneys who are unable to attend to their clients’ needs. Kanarek had approached the bar last October about taking over his practice as a criminal defense attorney as a result of “personal problems,” said a spokesman for the state bar. Kanarek is going through a tough divorce, said his attorney, George Denney.
