LOCAL : Youth Wounded in Graffiti Spat
A 16-year-old Canoga Park boy was in good condition today after being shot when he confronted two suspected gang members he saw painting graffiti on a wall in Canoga Park, the Los Angeles police reported.
The teen-ager, whose name was withheld, suffered a gunshot wound to the upper left thigh about 5 p.m. Monday, said Sgt. Bill Martin of the West Valley station’s anti-gang unit. He was being treated at Humana Hospital-West Hills, police said.
The shooting occurred in the 6600 block of Lederer Avenue in Canoga Park where the victim, who is believed by police to also be affiliated with a gang, was walking on a pedestrian bridge over a flood control channel and saw two members of an opposing gang spray-painting graffiti on a wall. Detective Joe Diglio said there was a verbal dispute and then one of the gang members fired at the victim, striking him. The two suspects ran to a car and fled. No arrests were made.
Diglio said it was unclear what the dispute was about but it appeared to be related to gang rivalry.
