BIG WEST CONFERENCE ROUNDUP : Johnson Leads No. 9 Las Vegas Past Fresno State
Larry Johnson scored 28 points to lead No. 9 Nevada Las Vegas to an 84-75 victory over Fresno State Monday night in a Big West Conference basketball game in Selland Arena at Fresno.
Johnson scored 17 of his points in the second half as UNLV (11-3, 5-1 in conference play) broke open the game with a 22-12 run in the first eight minutes. David Butler added 16 points and 13 rebounds for UNLV.
Tod Bernard led Fresno State (6-8, 1-4) with a career-high 27 points.
UC Santa Barbara 91, Utah State 82--Idris Jones scored 25 points, including seven three-point baskets, and Eric McArthur had 19 rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the Gauchos at Logan, Utah.
The Gauchos took control early, taking a 17-3 lead with 15:48 left in the half with help from Jones’ long-range shooting.
Gary Gray and McArthur each scored 17 for the Gauchos (10-4, 4-2). Paul Johnson added 14 and Lucious Davis 10.
The Aggies (9-7, 3-2) were led by Kendall Youngblood with 24 points. Darrel White finished with 18 and Allen Gordon 15.
