NBA ROUNDUP : Hornets Spoil Perfection With First Road Victory

Share

The Charlotte Hornets will not lose every road game this season.

They made sure of that in Denver, where Kelly Tripucka scored four of his 28 points in the last minute Thursday night in a 110-108 victory over the Nuggets.

The Hornets had lost all 16 previous games away from Charlotte. And they beat a team that was 14-3 at home.

The Hornets, who ended a six-game losing streak, led almost the entire game. But the Nuggets scored seven points in a row to tie the game, 104-104, with 57 seconds left.

Dell Curry sank two free throws and Tripucka hit a jump shot before Bill Hanzlik made a three-pointer to put Denver one point behind with 17 seconds left. Tripucka then sewed it up with two free throws.

Chicago 132, Golden State 107--Michael Jordan 44 points, eight assists and 12 rebounds and sat out the fourth quarter at Chicago against the defenseless Warriors, who have a 2-15 record on the road. Jordan set a club record with seven three-point baskets.

The Bulls jumped in front early and on three occasions built the lead to 31 points.

In the three games on this current trip, the Warriors haven’t been close to a victory. They have given up 144, 134 and 132 points in those games. They still have games at Boston and Detroit.

Milwaukee 115, Washington 112--The Bullets are in a slump and with their leading scorer, Jeff Malone sidelined because of a back problem, it only got worse at Landover, Md.

The Bullets battled back from a 14-point halftime deficit to twice cut the Milwaukee lead to a point, but they lost their fourth in a row and the 13th in the last 15 games.

Ledell Eackles, replacing Malone, had 37 points for the Bullets.

The Bucks made five of six free throws in the last 90 seconds to clinch the win.

Phoenix 113, Minnesota 96--Tom Chambers scored 27 points at Phoenix to lead the Suns to their sixth consecutive victory, but it may have been a costly one.
