SANTA ANA : City Acts to Boost Count of Latinos

Share

The city wants Latino residents to stand up and be counted during the 1990 Census.

To achieve this goal, the City Council last week unanimously voted to pay for two programs that it hopes will encourage Latinos to participate in the census.

The programs, which will cost about $50,000, will be developed by Hispanic Management and Hispanic America Inc. and will aim to increase Latino awareness of the census.

Hispanic Management will try to educate residents through a grocery store marketing program. It plans to prepare 10,000 packets of store coupons along with a census-information flyer that will be distributed to households in the southeast portion of Santa Ana.

Three Viva grocery stores in the city will help promote the census during March.

Hispanic America Inc. proposes two, three-hour grocery store fiestas with well-known Latino personalities to help attract and educate crowds.
