BellSouth Corp.: The Atlanta-based telecommunications company reported 1989 profit of $1.74 billion, up 4% from 1988. Revenue totaled $14 billion, an increase of nearly 3%. Fourth-quarter profit was $469 million, up nearly 12% over the 1988 quarter. Revenue was $3.6 billion, a gain of 3%. The company credited the increases to gains in local telephone service revenues resulting from the addition of 565,000 access lines.
