Rancho Bernardo
A transient convicted of receiving stolen goods from numerous burglaries in Rancho Bernardo has been sentenced to four years and four months in state prison.
A $30,000 fine was also handed down to Joseph Trevino, 31, who was arrested Aug. 10 at a Poway motel.
The fine will be paid partially from Trevino’s prison earnings.
Trevino pleaded guilty to four counts of receiving stolen property in three separate cases against him involving goods burglarized from homes in Rancho Bernardo, Poway and Rancho Penasquitos.
San Diego Municipal Judge H. Ronald Domnitz denied probation for Trevino on Monday and imposed the sentence that was recommended by the probation department.
The department said the nine victims’ homes were burglarized while the occupants were out at dinner or out of town. However, one Rancho Bernardo couple surprised the burglar April 22, and he fled with their camera.
Trevino denied participating in any of the burglaries or knowing Sergio Gomez, a prison escapee believed responsible for a series of burglaries in Rancho Bernardo.
Trevino told a probation officer that he bought the stolen goods from illegal aliens and made only a slight profit.
The stolen goods included coin and stamp collections and jewelry.
