NBA ROUNDUP : Pistons End Bulls’ Home Streak

Isiah Thomas scored nine consecutive points in the final 8:54 as the Detroit Pistons ended the Chicago Bulls’ 15-game home winning streak Tuesday night, 107-95.

Leading, 80-79, with 8:54 to play, Detroit outscored the Bulls, 15-6. The Bulls pulled to 98-94 with less than three minutes to play, as Michael Jordan scored five consecutive points. But the Pistons outscored the Bulls, 12-1, the rest of the way.

“It was a very important game for us,” Thomas said. “It came at a point of the season where things could start snapping. You could lose four or five games in a row.”

Thomas led Detroit with 26 points and Joe Dumars had 16 as the Pistons took over first in the Central Division by half a game. Jordan scored 32 points.

Phoenix 118, Miami 99--Tom Chambers scored 32 points, lifting the Suns to their ninth consecutive victory, tying the club record.

Kevin Johnson added 21 points for the Suns. The Heat, led by Tellis Frank with 17 points, has lost three in a row.

Dallas 129, Washington 105--The Mavericks made 82.6% of their shots in the first quarter as the visiting Bullets suffered their seventh consecutive loss.

It was also the Bullets’ seventh consecutive loss on the road and 17th in their last 18 road games.

Adrian Dantley led the Mavericks with 24 points. Teammate Roy Tarpley, reinstated Monday after a 67-day suspension for violation of the NBA substance-abuse policy, played the fourth quarter and scored 11 points.

Utah 102, Houston 94--Karl Malone had 37 points and 18 rebounds at Salt Lake City, leading the Jazz to its seventh consecutive victory.

Mark Eaton added 14 points and 15 rebounds, both his season highs, for Utah.

Akeem Olajuwon led the Rockets with 20 points.

Philadelphia 103, Cleveland 88--Charles Barkley had 32 points and 15 rebounds at Richfield, Ohio, lifting the 76ers to their fifth consecutive victory.

Barkley, who reached double figures in scoring and rebounding for the seventh time in his last eight games, had 14 points in the third quarter, including all seven during a 7-2 run that gave the 76ers a 72-55 lead midway through the period.

Atlanta 106, Charlotte 101--Moses Malone made six free throws in the final 1:19, helping the Hawks end a six-game losing streak at Charlotte, N.C.

Malone finished with 29 points and 16 rebounds as the Hawks won for the first time in eight road games. Charlotte’s Armon Gilliam scored a season-high 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Portland 119, Milwaukee 90--Jerome Kersey and Terry Porter each scored 19 points, helping the Trail Blazers end the visiting Bucks’ four-game winning streak. It was the 10th victory in the last 11 games for the Trail Blazers.

Golden State 109, Minnesota 102--Mitch Richmond scored 27 points and Chris Mullin added 26 as the Warriors extended the visiting Timberwolves’ losing streak to seven games. It was the Warriors’ 11th consecutive victory at home; the Timberwolves have lost 11 in a row on the road.
