LA HABRA : Restaurateur to Appeal Decision

A restaurateur says he will appeal a decision by the Planning Commission denying him permission to operate a catering truck in front of his restaurant, which is being rebuilt.

Rafael De Anda is constructing a new restaurant at 701 E. La Habra Blvd. and has continued to serve meals from a truck since the demolition of his old building.

City officials ordered the removal of the truck, citing sections of the zoning code requiring that all business in La Habra be conducted within an enclosed building.

“I cook the food in my other restaurant,” said De Anda, who operates a second restaurant in Fullerton. “I don’t see any problems; the parking lot is finished, and it’s lighted.”

Construction of the new building is expected to be completed by March 31, said De Anda. He assured the commission that steps would be taken to ensure the health and safety of patrons.

Bill Vega, owner of a neighboring business, complained to the commission about the operation of the truck.

“I have a big problem with a flea market-type atmosphere next door,” he said.
