An overheated engine on a Pan American Airways jumbo jet prompted the pilot to return to Los Angeles International Airport shortly after takeoff Friday, officials said.

There were no injuries among the 89 passengers and 17 crew members aboard Flight 120, Pan Am spokesman Alan Loflin said. The Boeing 747 took off at 11:56 a.m., headed for London’s Heathrow Airport, Loflin said. About 20 minutes later, the crew noticed the overheating engine and turned around.
