* SCHOOL CHIEF UNDER FIRE: Lynwood Unified District School Board members will hold a special meeting at 8 a.m. Monday to discuss taking action against Supt. LaVoneia Steele. The troubled district has been plagued by overcrowded classes, a shortage of books, low academic achievement and teacher resignations.

* ANTI-SPRAY MEETING: David Bunn, research director of Pesticide Watch, will speak Monday evening at a meeting organized by San Marino residents who oppose the use of malathion spraying to combat the Medfly. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Webb Theatre at San Marino High School.

* COMMUTER TELEVISION: Caltrans will introduce COM-TEL on Tuesday, a demonstration project which will give drivers up-to-the minute traffic information on television monitors installed in lobbies of major downtown office buildings and other locations where they can be viewed by homeward-bound commuters.

* WALK AROUND THE WORLD: The Global Walk for a Livable World, a three-year walk to spotlight environmental awareness, is set to begin on Thursday at the Sea Shepherd Mural, six blocks south of the Santa Monica Pier on the Boardwalk. The group of 150 people will be planting trees, picking up litter, recycling materials and generally promoting public concern about the environment.
