Regarding “Making Sense of Maureen,” by Leonard Bernstein and Barry M. Horstman (Dec.10): Poor Maureen.

She has been in office only 3 1/2 years and hasn’t solved all of the road, sewer, homeless and drug problems. What a bad job she is doing as the mayor of San Diego.

How wonderful is Tom Bradley, Mayor of Los Angeles? Our sewer is outdated, we’re still dumping raw sewage in Santa Monica Bay, the drug traffic is out of control, streets are a mess, political payoffs are rampant. And it only took him 16 years to do nothing for the City of Los Angeles.

Please, now that you have the responsibility as the only major paper in Los Angeles, let’s tell it like it is and stop blaming someone for not getting San Diego’s problems fixed in 3 1/2 years and stop covering for Bradley incompetence. Sixteen years of non-leadership. Yes, he worked to get the Olympics and has done nothing for the homeless and the folks in South Los Angeles.

San Diego is growing in a proper manner. The downtown is alive; whereas downtown L.A. is a mess.

Could Los Angeles be so lucky as to have a mayor half as good as the one in San Diego?
