ALBANY, N.Y. — Frank Sinatra will perform tonight at the grand opening of the $68-million Knickerbocker Arena, despite a report that he might be too distraught over the death of ex-wife Ava Gardner to go on.
“Mr. Sinatra is looking forward to being there and has been looking forward to the concert for some time,” Sinatra’s spokeswoman, Susan Reynolds, said Monday by telephone from Los Angeles.
WRGB-TV had reported Monday that Sinatra might cancel the performance because he was “distraught” over the death of Gardner, who died Thursday at her home in London.
The grand opening of the 15,000-seat arena is to include a black-tie party and $150 ringside seats for the Sinatra show.
