MISQUOTED?: The first issue of the Quayle Quarterly, an East Coast journal devoted entirely to the vice president, quickly lit a fire in Orange County. . . . Asked about how people here viewed Quayle, campaign consultant Eileen Padberg was quoted as saying local Republicans are loyal but not stupid and Quayle would have to prove himself. “Nothing I said could be construed close to what came out,” Padberg complained. The article’s author, Newport Beach attorney Jerry Werksman, scoffed at Padberg’s denial. “I’ll show my notes to anyone,” he said.
